Spain wins the World Croquet World Team Championship (Tier 2) and rises to the first category of World Croquet

It was the first international tournament since the coronavirus pandemic began. It was attended by the teams of Wales, Switzerland, Latvia, Norway, Scotland, Spain plus two invited teams. The atmosphere that has been lived has been fantastic and will remain for the memory of all the teams, the organizing committee, as well as the many spectators who have come to the lawns during those days. Evening visit to Bodega González-Byass

Tuesday, second day into the Championship.  In the evening, the players have been invited by the sponsors –Bodega González-Byass– to visit their wine-cellar in Jerez de la Frontera.  A warning sign lit up in the bus driving the group just before the last stretch, a steep uphill! Fortunately, it made it to the door!  Our hosts had prepared a guided visit to the wine cellar.  We were able to see the structure built by Eiffel (yes, the same Eiffel of the Paris tower), the main bodegas with hundreds of wooden barrels, the quaint streets with the illuminated cathedral in the background, where the mice like to drink their wine… Some barrels were signed by celebrities, kings and queens, some by sports figures (although we didn’t find the croquet champion’s barrel!).  When the tour ended we were offered samples of different wines they produce and…

Interview with Rachel Gee

With her childish face and sweet ways, you would never guess that Rachel is a hardened croquet champion that has played, and won, many international championships against much more experienced players.  She started when she was a teenager playing garden croquet in her backyard and at 15 she joined the Ashby Croquet Club, by far its youngest member.  The Club put her forward to participate in the Under 21 England/Ireland Match, where she got hooked into competitive croquet.  Also, she was encouraged to take up AC by the other young players in this event. Opening Ceremony

El Puerto de Santa María (Cádiz) The President of the World Croquet Federation, Mr. Ian Burridge, has declared open the III GC World Team Championship (Tier 2).  With the assistance of the Mayor of El Puerto de Santa María, Mr. Germán Beardo, the President of the Spanish Croquet Federation, Mr. José Luis Álvarez-Sala, players and Event staff, the opening ceremony took place this evening at the Real Club de Golf Vista Hermosa, main venue of the Championship.
